Most of us who spend time in front of a computer experience dry eye on occasion.
It’s not just irritating. It can increase stress, decrease productivity, induce headaches and generally make the workday a real downer.
Research shows we blink 66 percent less when staring at a screen, which means less lubrication and more friction on the eyeball.
A recent FDA recall of some over-the-counter eye drops connected to bacteria outbreaks hasn’t helped the situation.
And yet, there are some sure-fire, tried-and-true remedies for dry and irritated eyes, starting with:
Turn the Computer Off. Give your poor peepers a break. If you really want to indulge yourself, close your eyes, lower the lights, put on restful music, and give yourself an eye and temple massage.
Here’s another surefire solution: eye drops.
“The fact is, eye drops are one of the most effective remedies for dry eye,” writes healthcare expert Michelle Crouch in the September 2023 AARP Bulletin. “For a mild case, over the counter eyedrops may be all your need, although your eye doctor can offer more treatment options.”
