Learn how the CARES Act might benefit you and your clients.

News and information on how the COVID-19 crisis might impact your law practice – including details on theCoronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act – is available on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce website.

The site will also be of interest to many of your small business and corporate clients.

A recent addition: the Coronavirus Response Toolkit, which contains infographics, tip sheets, social media tools and other resources for law firms and other businesses.

Also: a link to the twice-weekly live broadcast the Path Forward, in which US Chamber President Suzanne Clark discusses what a responsible reopening strategy will look like. Path Forward brings in experts from healthcare, government and business sectors to cover topics ranging from immunity and liability to ways employers can incorporate screening, social-distancing and other risk management approaches into the workplace.

“Stay well and stay safe,” says the website. “The U.S. Chamber has compiled CDC’s coronavirus recommendations for businesses and workers across the country. We encourage American businesses to follow data-based guidance from the CDC and state and local officials. We’ll continue to share with you the most up to date information and resources as we navigate this pandemic.”

Another way for you to stay safe is to obtain professional liability coverage through Alta Pro Insurance Services. When you do, you’re automatically enrolled in the Alta Pro Lawyers RPG, which gives you access to a broad range of benefits, including the Pro Practice Playbook, Ask the Risk Pro, Reminger ProLink, discounts on Clio cloud software and much more. Here’s how to join.

Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act

  • Coronavirus Small Business Guide. The U.S. Chamber’s own interactive digital platform CO— has created a Coronavirus Small Business Guide to help you navigate the pandemic with new stories daily—including the resource guides above, remote working tips, links to small business webinars and townhalls, and more.
  • Coronavirus Emergency Loans Small Business Guide and Checklist. The U.S. Chamber’s Coronavirus Emergency Loans Small Business Guide and Checklist is a comprehensive step-by-step tool to help small businesses, independent contractors, gig economy workers and other qualifying individuals prepare to file for a coronavirus relief loan under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
  • Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) Program Guide. The CARES Act expanded the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) long-standing Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program . The EIDL program was created to assist businesses, renters, and homeowners located in regions affected by declared disasters. The program is applicable to small businesses and most small nonprofits (less than 500 employees), sole proprietors and independent contractors. The U.S. Chamber’s guide to the SBA’s EIDL Program seeks to help you check eligibility, understand loan parameters, and find out how to access emergency grants.
  • Employee Retention Tax Credit Guide. The CARES Act also created a new employee retention tax credit—that does not have size restrictions—for employers who are closed, partially closed, or experiencing significant revenue losses as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The U.S. Chamber’s guide to the Employee Retention Tax Credit will help businesses check eligibility, calculate their credit, and understand which employees count toward eligibility, among other information.
  • Temporary Paid Leave and Family Medical Leave Guide. The Families First Coronavirus Response Act created new temporary paid sick leave and paid Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) programs that are 100% reimbursable by the federal government. The U.S. Chamber’s Coronavirus Paid Leave Programs: Employer Guide provides information on requirements, employee eligibility, paid leave calculations and exemptions.
