Not every professional fits neatly into a traditional malpractice or E&O category. Advertising agencies, event planners, human resource consultants, market researchers, mediators, travel agents, and many other service providers still face significant exposure to professional liability claims. Alta Pro’s Miscellaneous Professional Liability (MPL) program gives producers access to multiple carriers and flexible coverage options for a broad spectrum of professional services—so you can match protection to each client’s unique risk profile.
Alta Pro works with independent agents, brokers, and program administrators to deliver Miscellaneous Professional Liability coverage that fits a wide range of professional service firms. By partnering with multiple carriers, we help producers:
• Place coverage for a broad spectrum of MPL classes
• Align limits and deductibles with each client’s risk tolerance and financial profile
• Address unique exposures through tailored endorsements and program structures
Our goal is to make it easier for you to deliver consistent, reliable MPL solutions to your clients nationwide.
Quick answers to common questions about Miscellaneous Professional Liability Insurance (MPL) and how Alta Pro’s program works for producers and their clients.
The MPL program is designed for a broad range of service professionals, including advertising and marketing professionals, event planners, graphic designers, human resource consultants, market researchers, mediators, travel agents, and other similar service providers. In addition, certain P&C insurance agencies, MGAs, wholesalers, PAs, and MGUs may be eligible subject to revenue and operational guidelines.
Limits are available up to $5,000,000, subject to underwriting guidelines and class of business. Deductible minimums generally start at $1,000. A damages-only deductible (first dollar defense) may be available when the firm has not had more than one claim with incurred costs exceeding $5,000 in the past three years. Higher-than-normal deductible options may be considered for firms that meet carrier financial requirements.
Certain classes are ineligible for this MPL program, including: reinsurance intermediaries; captive insurance agencies; third party administrators; actuarial services; real estate agents and brokers; stand-alone insurance consultants and marketing firms; variable life and viatical placements; insurance companies and other risk-bearing entities; and MGAs, PAs, or MGUs that handle claims with coverage and settlement discretion or that appoint sub-agents with binding authority.
Extended reporting period (ERP) options allow insureds to report covered claims after policy expiration for incidents that occurred during the policy term. ERP options in this program are typically priced as a percentage of the annual premium—for example, 100% for one year, 150% for two years, 200% for three years, and 300% for five years. Availability and terms may vary by carrier.
Producers can access the MPL program by working with Alta Pro and its carrier partners. If you are not currently appointed, you can reach out through the Contact Alta Pro page to discuss next steps. We will review your target classes, territory, and distribution model to determine how the program can best support your professional liability placements.
