Not every professional fits neatly into a traditional malpractice or E&O category. Advertising agencies, event planners, human resource consultants, market researchers, mediators, travel agents, and many other service providers still face significant exposure to professional liability claims. Alta Pro’s Miscellaneous Professional Liability (MPL) program gives producers access to multiple carriers and flexible coverage options for a broad spectrum of professional services—so you can match protection to each client’s unique risk profile.
Our Miscellaneous Professional Liability Insurance program offers broad coverage features and supplementary benefits designed to respond to the kinds of issues service professionals encounter in their day-to-day work.

Policyholders in the MPL program gain access to a confidential risk management helpline. This service connects insureds with experienced professionals who can help them think through potential claims, client disputes, contract wording, and other risk scenarios before they escalate. Producers can position this as a practical value-add that:
• Encourages early reporting and proactive problem solving
• Helps insureds navigate tricky client situations and documentation issues
• Supports better underwriting outcomes over time by reducing claim severity and frequency
In addition, Alta Pro can share tools, best practices, and educational resources that producers can use to help clients strengthen their internal procedures and reduce professional liability exposures.

Miscellaneous Professional Liability Insurance (MPL) is designed for service professionals who may not fall under a traditional malpractice or E&O category. It helps protect against claims alleging negligence, errors, omissions, misstatements, or failure to provide professional services as agreed. MPL can be tailored to a wide variety of professions, including advertising, event planning, consulting, design, and more.
Key program features include supplementary payments where no deductible applies (subpoena expense, disciplinary action, and loss of earnings reimbursement), optional insolvency coverage by endorsement for qualifying carriers, and multiple extended reporting period (ERP) options. These enhancements help insureds manage the practical, financial, and regulatory impact of professional liability claims.
Eligible risks include P&C insurance agencies engaged in the marketing, selling, and servicing of insurance policies. Agencies selling life, accident, and health products may also qualify when revenue from those products is less than 50% of total agency commission income. Maximum revenue guidelines typically include up to $10,000,000 in commission income for P&C agents and up to $5,000,000 in net retained commissions for MGAs, wholesalers, PAs, and MGUs.
Insolvency coverage may be available and can be amended by endorsement. Generally, eligible risks involve carriers rated B+ or better by A.M. Best at the time of placement, participation in State Guaranty Funds or Guaranty Associations, state residual market programs, or County Mutual placements reinsured by highly rated carriers. Specific terms and availability depend on the carrier and jurisdiction.
Quick answers to common questions about Miscellaneous Professional Liability Insurance (MPL) and how Alta Pro’s program works for producers and their clients.
The MPL program is designed for a broad range of service professionals, including advertising and marketing professionals, event planners, graphic designers, human resource consultants, market researchers, mediators, travel agents, and other similar service providers. In addition, certain P&C insurance agencies, MGAs, wholesalers, PAs, and MGUs may be eligible subject to revenue and operational guidelines.
Limits are available up to $5,000,000, subject to underwriting guidelines and class of business. Deductible minimums generally start at $1,000. A damages-only deductible (first dollar defense) may be available when the firm has not had more than one claim with incurred costs exceeding $5,000 in the past three years. Higher-than-normal deductible options may be considered for firms that meet carrier financial requirements.
Certain classes are ineligible for this MPL program, including: reinsurance intermediaries; captive insurance agencies; third party administrators; actuarial services; real estate agents and brokers; stand-alone insurance consultants and marketing firms; variable life and viatical placements; insurance companies and other risk-bearing entities; and MGAs, PAs, or MGUs that handle claims with coverage and settlement discretion or that appoint sub-agents with binding authority.
Extended reporting period (ERP) options allow insureds to report covered claims after policy expiration for incidents that occurred during the policy term. ERP options in this program are typically priced as a percentage of the annual premium—for example, 100% for one year, 150% for two years, 200% for three years, and 300% for five years. Availability and terms may vary by carrier.
Producers can access the MPL program by working with Alta Pro and its carrier partners. If you are not currently appointed, you can reach out through the Contact Alta Pro page to discuss next steps. We will review your target classes, territory, and distribution model to determine how the program can best support your professional liability placements.
