If you think you’ve been noticing more lawyers in your neighborhood lately, your eyes aren’t deceiving you.
The profession gained a whopping 2,900 law jobs in November 2019. That comes one month after gaining only 300 jobs in October, and two months after losing 900 in September, according to jobs figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
“Total jobs in the legal services sector stood at 1,151,900, an increase of 11,000 jobs since the same time a year ago,” says this article in the ABA Journal. “

The nearly 3,000 new jobs in November was the biggest increase August 2019, when the industry tack on 4,100 new jobs. This total represents a 10-year high, according to Law360.
Law firms are focusing their recruiting in certain areas, according to the ABA Journal, including finance, capital markets, and mergers and acquisitions.
“The hiring enthusiasm is apparently spurred by an increase in deals and transactions,” the Journal reports, and it isn’t confined to large firms.
