The largest Easter egg in the world weighs 5000 pounds.

We all know the Easter Bunny is a magical rabbit that delivers more candy and colored eggs in a single day than Amazon could ever imagine.

But did you know the mythical creature dates back four centuries to the German Lutherans? Or that the Lutherans’ “Easter Hare” was originally depicted as a judge who decides whether children had been good or bad, and thus deserving of treats.

And were you aware that the annual Presidential Easter Egg Roll has been celebrated at the White House every year since 1878?

  3. Americans spend $1.9 billion on Easter candy annually, making Easter the second biggest candy holiday after Halloween.
  4. Seventy percent of Easter candy is chocolate.
  5. Seventy-six percent of Americans think the ears of a chocolate bunny should be eaten first.
  6. The sugary marshmallow Peeps were created in 1953. At first, the only Peeps were yellow chicks. Now the offerings include marshmallow bunnies, pumpkins and vampires. Related Peeps products include earrings, watches, plush toys and lip balm.
  7. Peeps are made from sugar, corn syrup, gelatin, food dye and a pinch of salt.
  8. A Peeps Eating contest is held each year at the Peeps & Company headquarters in National Harbor, Maryland. The record is 255 Peeps eaten in five minutes.
  9. Egg dyes were originally made from natural items like onion peels, tree bark and flower petals.
  10. Most chicken hatcheries have stopped the practice of dyeing chicks, while some continue, saying the process isn’t hazardous to the chicks’ health.
  11. While Good Friday is a major religious holiday, only 12 of 50 states recognize it as a federal holiday.
  12. In Germany and other countries, pretzels are eaten on Good Friday for good luck.
  13. The first story of a rabbit hiding eggs in a garden was published in 1680.
  14. The world’s largest Easter egg is in Alberta, Canada. It is 18 feet wide and 31 feet tall, weighs two-and-a-half tons, and took 12,000 hours to complete. It’s not an actual egg but a sculpture made of 3500 pieces of aluminum.
