Tips for Promoting Wellness in Your Firm

It's more important than ever.

As your employees return to the office following the prolonged pandemic break, a good way to welcome them back is with a renewed emphasis on wellness.

You can do that in lots of different ways, such as providing standing desks and other ergonomic furniture options.

Using a standing desk can lower your risk for obesity, heart disease and back pain,” according to business writer Jamie Johnson in this post for the US Chamber of Commerce website CO. “One study found that employees who use standing desks are 45 percent more productive than employees who sit during their entire shift. Of course, some employees may not want to stand all day. Companies like Varidesk offer adjustable desks so employees can alternate between sitting and standing.”

Another wellness tip: provide access to an employee assistance program. Such programs can offer help for problems ranging from insomnia to substance abuse. Participation should be voluntary and confidential.

More Pointers for Your In-House Wellness Program

Here are some other highlights from 7 Wellness Benefits to Offer Your Employees:

  1. Restock your breakroom with healthy snacks. “A 2019 report found that 60 percent of Americans prefer to snack on small, frequent meals throughout the day,” writes Johnson. “That’s why one of the easiest ways to encourage wellness is by providing healthy snacks. One option you can consider is providing snack boxes from a company like Snack Perk. You can sign up for a subscription on the company’s website and choose the types of packages you want to provide.”
  2. Start a health and wellness challenge. A web platform like Wellable lets employees track their healthy habits. You can offer prizes as a fun incentive.
  3. Bring in a wellness coach. Experts are available on topics from yoga to nutrition. Host a virtual wellness presentation at your next staff meeting.
  4. Encourage community service and engagement. “Giving back to the community is one of the best ways to connect with other people and improve your own mental and physical well-being,” according to Johnson. “So, once a quarter, organize a community service activity for your employees with a nonprofit cause you care about. This activity could be something like a community car wash to raise money for a charity or a community cleanup project. Get a sense of the type of volunteer project your employees would find meaningful and put it on the calendar.”
  5. Stay connected. In these uncertain times, your employees want to feel understood, supported and connected.
